Liverpool star quits National youth team over text

|

Liverpool youngster, Fabio Carvalho, has quit the Portuguese Under-21 youth setup following an announcement on Portugal National Team’s Official Site.

The official statement said: “Fabio Carvalho informed the Portuguese Football Federation, through some SMS messages, that he does not intend to continue representing Portugal at Under-21 level.”

“This decision by the player was communicated after the call-up for friendlies against Czech Republic and Japan was made.”

Carvalho joined Liverpool from Fulham in the summer in a move worth roughly £8million and has enjoyed an exciting start to his career at Anfield.

Scoring two goals so far this season, including his last-minute winner against Newcastle United at Anfield back in August.

He was also included in Portugal’s 55-man preliminary squad for the Qatar World Cup but did not make the final 26-man squad with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.

The snub has raised hopes that the talented youngster will look to represent England in the future rather than Portugal, with Carvalho moving to England in 2013 and captaining England’s Under-17 in the past.

This means a switch is possible for the Liverpool man and could prove to become another exciting young prospect for Gareth Southgate to keep an eye on in the future.

Carvalho’s reasons for his decision are yet to be known but as an England fan this could be really exciting.
