In one of the more surprising transfer rumours of the summer so far, Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up a move for out of favour Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

According to TalkSport, Liverpool’s biggest rivals are very interested in signing the England international if they could secure a cut-price deal for the 28-year-old.

The Reds have listed Oxlade-Chamberlain on their exit list this summer after the midfielder failed to make a dent in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI this campaign.

The reported fee of £10 million seems like a fair price for the midfielder when you consider his injury record and lack of game time over the years but it’s his wage demands that might prove to be the stumbling block in negotiations.

New United boss Erik ten Hag will certainly be on the lookout to bolster his midfielder during this window, after the departures of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic have left his options looking depleted.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 133 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 17 goals and providing 15 assists along the way but ultimately has failed to progress from the early fruitful form he showed.

His Liverpool contract expires next summer, so the Merseyside club will be keen to get a deal over the line, rather than losing him on a free after next season.
