Brighton v Liverpool: Starting XI Prediction

|

Liverpool will be without a number of key players when they travel to face Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Virgil Van Dijk, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino, Darwin Nunez and Arthur Melo are all ruled out of the game at the moment.

Here is how we think Jurgen Klopp will lineup his side:

Goalkeeper- Alisson Becker

The Brazilian will keep his place in goal and will be looking for a better performance than the one against Wolves, where he passed the ball straight to Goncalo Guedes to put Liverpool 1-0 down.

Defence- Trent, Konate, Matip, Robertson

Due to Virgil Van Dijk’s injury, Ibou Konate will partner Joel Matip at the heart of the defence.

Konate has been in poor form since returning from the World Cup, with bad performances against both Brentford and Wolves.

Some might suggest that Joe Gomez should start alongside Matip, but I still believe Konate is Liverpool’s second best defender on his day.

Trent will look to continue his fantastic form since his return from the World Cup, partnering Andy Robertson at full-back.

Midfield- Fabinho, Thiago, Keita

To be honest, I would be starting Naby Keita ahead of both Jordan Henderson and Harvey Elliott as they both struggle to find any sort of form in a Liverpool shirt.

Keita on his day is a great pressing midfielder and against Brighton’s hard-working midfield, Klopp’s side will desperately need the legs of Keita.

Fabinho and Thiago will both continue in midfield but both will need to work extremely hard to keep the likes of Moises Caicedo, Adam Lallana and Alexis MacAllister quiet.

Forwards- Salah, Gakpo, Oxlade-Chamberlain

Due to the injuries to Jota, Diaz, Firmino and Nunez, Liverpool only have two fit natural forwards in Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo.

Gakpo will be forced into his Premier League debut and will have to put in a performance down the middle of Klopp’s front line.

Whilst Salah and Oxlade-Chamberlain cut in from the right and left wing.

Personally, I would rather see Fabio Carvalho come in on the left-wing rather than Ox, but Klopp doesn’t seem as keen on the idea.

Bench- Kelleher, Gomez, Tsimikas, Milner, Henderson, Elliott, Carvalho, Jones, Doak.
