Toothless Liverpool smashed by ruthless Brighton

|

Liverpool put in one of the worst performances of the Jurgen Klopp era on Saturday, getting smashed 3-0 by Brighton.

A brace by the Seagulls’ Solly March was followed by a late goal from Danny Welbeck secured the three points for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

As good as Brighton were, where do we even start with Liverpool’s performance?

The display lacked desire, passion, quality and any sort of organisation, the worst since the horrific 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa in 2020.

Once again, the midfield was literally non-existent especially in the second half- Klopp may aswell have only played seven outfield players.

Just five shots and one on target from the Reds, the worst output under Jurgen Klopp since their defeat to Manchester City in 2016.

Frustratingly, both Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain kept their place in the starting lineup with Naby Keita and Fabio Carvalho only on the bench once again.

It’s hard to find a single player apart from Alisson that can hold their head high after today’s performance.

The harsh reality is that Klopp needs to wake up and get these players fired up again because if they put this performance in against Chelsea next weekend we could find ourselves in the bottom half of the league.

Seven points now seperates the Reds and Newcastle United in fourth place and the challenge of European football next season is only becoming harder.
