“He’ll keep improving, be sure of that”: Player analysis vs Ajax

|

Last night saw the Reds beat Ajax 1-0 in their fifth Champions League group game of the competition, with them ending up winners of Group D with a game to spare.

Plenty of players impressed throughout the game, with youngsters such as Caoimhín Kelleher, Curtis Jones, and Neco Williams all playing huge roles in the victory against the Dutch side – but Williams in particular really impressed me.

The youngster has faced some criticism as of late for some of his performances, but last night he proved them all wrong with a stellar performance that was also recognised by football reporter for the Daily Mail Dominic King on Twitter…

Williams registered a fantastic performance against Ajax, with his performance at right-back a cultured and mature display in both attack and defence, which certainly helped his case towards the Liverpool faithful that have had doubts over his ability and role at the club.

His stats from the game impressed even more – with 59 touches during the match, an 82% pass accuracy, 2 clearances, 3 tackles, 8 ground duels, 2 aerial duels, 7 long balls, 1 key pass, and of course, that all-important assist for Curtis Jones’ goal in the 58th minute, giving the Reds the victory needed to secure their qualification to the knockout stages as winners of Group D.

I was impressed throughout the whole game by Williams – he deserves all the praise he gets from his performance from last night and hopefully it won’t be the last time we see such a show from the 19-year-old with the return of Trent Alexander-Arnold edging closer as the days go by.

What do you think Liverpool fans, did Neco Williams’ performance impress you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
