Opinion: Academy youngster perfect replacement for “world-class” injured defender

|

With the injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold adding another player to the club’s rehabilitation table, interest turns to who will fill the void of the 22-year-old after the international break.

Despite the possibilities of James Milner, Jordan Henderson, and even Fabinho playing at right-back in place of Trent, the club already has the perfect player to take his place during his absence – Neco Williams.

The Welshman has shown glimpses of his quality for the Reds over the past year but has failed to nail down a proper run of games due to his position being contended with the aforementioned Trent, who has become one of the best players in the world and a world-class right-back.

Last season Williams featured in six of the clubs Premier League games, starting three and being substituted on in the other three.

I believe the 19-year-old would be the perfect replacement at right-back, for the time being, having already trained within the first team as well as picking up experience at the international level with Wales – playing four games and scoring once with one assist to his name in the UEFA Nations League.

Admittedly he is not at the level of Trent but this provides the perfect opportunity for him to further climatise himself within the Liverpool starting XI – and Klopp is known to put trust in his younger academy stars from time to time (just look at Trent himself for an example).

I think that Williams has the tools in his locker to be a perfect shoo-in for the time being, and who knows, he may even prove himself o be quite the player to the Liverpool faithful, giving Klopp a further headache on who to play each week!

What do you think Liverpool fans, could Neco Williams be the perfect replacement for now? Let us know in the comments section down below…
