Liverpool are looking at bringing Bournemouth winger David Brooks to Anfield this summer for a fee estimated to be around £35m, according to reports.

What’s the word?

The 23-year-old has just suffered relegation with the Cherries after their former manager Eddie Howe amazingly guided them from League One to become an established Premier League outfit for five years.

West Ham United have been another side that has been eagerly monitoring his progress and the Daily Star suggested that it would cost them around £30m to prize him from the South Coast side’s hands.

Brooks has been impressive for Bournemouth during the back end of the campaign which almost saw them pull off a great escape and survive in the top flight. But a victory against Everton at Goodison Park on the final day was not enough to stop them dropping down to the Championship.

Despite missing the majority of the 2019/20 campaign due to an ankle injury, he has also attracted the interest of Jurgen Klopp and his staff.

According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are contemplating putting in a bid for Brooks worth around £35m, who needs to replace Adam Lallana who departed to join Brighton and Hove Albion earlier in the summer.

Expensive potential

Due to financial complications regarding the temporary suspension of last season and matches being played behind closed doors, Liverpool have been hit hard in the pockets due to the lack of matchday revenue.

This has resulted in cutbacks in the transfer market, which has already seen them miss out on Timo Werner who eventually moved to Chelsea.

Therefore, it is hard to see how a move like this could be pulled off. Not only due to the extortionate transfer fee, but also the 12-cap Wales international has suffered some serious injury problems this season.

having scored eight times and provided five assists in 42 games for Bournemouth, his record is okay for a side that has been fighting towards the bottom of the league.

Although he is only playing off potential at this time and still has a lot to prove, a price of £35m does not justify Brooks and where he is currently at.
