Lots of Liverpool fans have been urging Fenway Sports Group to help Jurgen Klopp make history by building a side that can compete in multiple competitions next season.

Liverpool controversially sacrificed this year’s Carabao Cup in the Quarter-Finals by fielding a young side against Aston Villa, with Klopp instead taking the more senior figures to the Club World Cup.

Klopp’s decision paid off as it led to the Reds’ first Club World Cup success but at the detriment of competing for a domestic honour, and later fell out of the FA Cup to eventual-finalists Chelsea after making wholesale changes in the Fifth Round tie.

Lots of Liverpool fans argue that Klopp would not have had to sacrifice the domestic tournaments to focus on Premier League glory had the German been gifted a bigger budget to build a larger squad, and would urge FSG to atone for that this summer so the Anfield natives can do more than only win one piece of domestic or European silverware at a time.

Figures supplied by TransferMarkt show Liverpool spent just £9.36m on transfers during the 2019/20 season, while making £37.44million from the departures of several players including Danny Ings, Ryan Kent and Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool spent vastly more during the previous campaign with £163.98m leaving the club to the £37.19m recouped, for a net spend in 2018/19 of minus-£126.79m.

Nevertheless, fans feel FSG need to dig their hands into their pockets and present the cash Klopp needs to add strength in depth at Anfield so that he can compete for more than one honour at a time.

The trophy many Liverpool fans would love to see Klopp challenge for next season, outside of defending their first Premier League title, is the FA Cup.

Liverpool last won the oldest national club competition in the world in 2006 when the Reds clinched their seventh FA Cup, only Arsenal (13), Manchester United (12), Chelsea (eight) and Tottenham Hotspur (eight) have won more.

Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United have been dominant in the FA Cup since Liverpool last won the competition, with the Blues lifting the trophy four times, the Sky Blues twice, the Gunners three times and the Red Devils once.

Portsmouth and Wigan Athletic have also won the FA Cup more recently than Liverpool.

Not all Liverpool fans feel Klopp should focus his efforts on winning the FA Cup next season, as many believe the competition is not what it once was and that lifting the trophy would not be much for a side capable of winning the Premier League and Champions League.
