“Premier League has to change!”: Jurgen Klopp’s reaction to heavy schedule

|

After Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City yesterday, it is thought that much of the post-match talk would focus around the game itself.

However, Jurgen Klopp was keen to point out the issues surrounding the Premier League’s match scheduling whilst being interviewed by the BBC, in which he highlighted how many of the clubs in the league are having to play lunchtime kickoffs during a key ‘recovery phase’ after midweek European clashes.

I agree with what Klopp is saying on the matter – for players to take part in games during midweek such as Wednesday or Thursday, to then only have around two to three days in between for recovery, training, match preparation, etc can be damaging to the fitness of players, as well as the results and performances of many teams.

Klopp stated the two hours extra can even make a difference, with the recovery of many of his players the big issue surrounding the subject of the leagues match scheduling.

If the Premier League want to quality and integrity of their league to remain around the world and still be regarded as one of the best, then issues like this need to be addressed, and fast.

It is understandable that sometimes schedules can change, and matches may have to be moved around to accommodate everyone, but with Red facing a jam-packed fixture list these next two months, they are an example of how quickly and desperately these changes are needed.

What do you think Liverpool fans, do the Premier League need to make some changes? Let us know in the comments below…
