Cutting off our nose to spite our face?

That might just be what Liverpool are on the verge of doing when it comes to a potential departure from the club. According to a report from Football Insider Harry Wilson’s move to Burnley is reportedly over as the two sides failed to reach an agreement, with the Reds rejecting a £12m offer, even though the deal seemed ‘likely’ last week.

Having made just his second appearance for the club in Thursday night’s loss to Arsenal, and with all logic dictating that he leave in order to get first team football, it appears as though he might yet get a chance to play some more games at Anfield unless a new home can be sorted out quickly.

I personally can’t see what we could possibly gain from holding out for an extra couple of million pounds here and there.

Is Burnley the right club for Harry Wilson?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Given the amount of money that we make, which granted will take a bit of a hit due to fans not being allowed in grounds, I can’t see why it should be up to us to ‘hold out’ for a potentially extortionate fee. At the end of the day, would we rather miss out on (and I’ll just give theoretical figures here) an extra £3m that we are asking for, or £12m for not selling him at all.

If the club are so concerned with letting him go and using that money to invest elsewhere then we should be helping the matter rather than hurting it. And this philosophy doesn’t just go for Wilson, but any other player that we are looking to offload this window.

What about you? What do you make of this news regarding Wilson?
