Liverpool are reportedly interested in Watford winger Ismaila Sarr but any attempt to sign him could be scuppered by past events.

The 22-year-old will be remembered by some Reds fans after his brace downed Jurgen Klopp’s side 3-0 which prevented them from going the entire season unbeaten.

Sarr, who is typically a right-winger, was recently praised by former Manchester United defender Gary Neville who described him as a “big talent”, and hinted that he is the sort of player that his old team should be looking at, as per Sky Sports.

According to Liverpool.com, any potential deal for Sarr could be sidelined after a long-running “transfer feud” between the club continues since 2016.

The report adds that this stems back from when the Hornets and Reds were both pursuing Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski. The Italian club is owned by the Pozzo family – who also own Watford – with Giampolo Pozzo and his son Gino overseeing matters on and off the field at Vicarage Road.

This season, Sarr has scored six goals and provided five assists in 28 appearances for Nigel Pearson’s side who have severely struggled in their league campaign this year and find themselves on the cusp of the relegation zone in 17th place.

His attacking prowess has helped the Hornets immensely during the 2019/20 campaign, averaging 1.6 shots per game and a pass success rate of 80.4%, as per Whoscored.

Sarr would be a solid signing for Liverpool. After being priced out for Jadon Sancho, the Senegalese attacker could be a good alternative that would be a quality backup for the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
