It appears that Liverpool will not be signing Jadon Sancho after all.
That is according to reliable journalist Guillem Balague, who suggested on his social media account that the Reds are pretty much out of the running for the Borussia Dortmund winger.
The Reds have been linked with a move worth £120m for the 20-year-old and were in the running alongside some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Sky Sports previously revealed that we had a chance in bringing him to Anfield. However, that has now all changed.
Balague said on his YouTube channel that it will now be a straight fight between Manchester United and Chelsea.
“It is amongst both of them”, he said. “I think Manchester United is ahead because it does look like that plan they had to actually reinvigorate the squad was going at a decent pace.”
Do Liverpool need Jadon Sancho?
Liverpool already have plenty of options in the wide areas in the form of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Spending that sort of money would mean that he would have to start ahead of either one of those players, which is unlikely.
Make no mistake, Sancho would improve our squad immensely by injecting additional squad depth that is required to compete at the highest level alongside the likes of Manchester City.
On that point, there has to be some form of justification for spending that kind of money on a player who, with all due respect, is still fairly inexperienced at the highest level compared to players already in our ranks.
While there will be some Liverpool fans that will be disappointed, there are other areas in the squad that need to be focused on, David Ornstein told the Ornstein and Chapman Podcast. The old saying goes, if it ain’t broke, you know the rest.
