Salah strikes as Liverpool defeat Man City

|

Liverpool pulled off an amazing 1-0 victory over Manchester City to end the Champions’ unbeaten start to the season.

Referee Anthony Taylor’s painfully bad performance wasn’t enough to overrule the Reds’ efforts as Mohamed Salah’s 76th minute winner got Jurgen Klopp’s men a much needed three points.

Both sides missed a couple half-chances in the first half, with none being rewarded.

Phil Foden thought he had given the Citizens the lead after Anthony Taylor ignored a blatant foul by Erling Haaland on Fabinho before kicking the ball out of Alisson’s hands.

Thankfully for once VAR served justice as the goal was overruled much to the despise of City manager Pep Guardiola, throwing his fists around and almost chasing the referee down the tunnel.

Mohamed Salah was denied by Ederson mid-way through the second half due to a world class save, but the Egyptian’s confidence didn’t shrink.

Kevin De Bruyne’s poor free kick floated straight into the arms of Alisson before smashing the ball long up to Salah.

A magnificent turn, leaving City full-back Joao Cancelo dizzy, before slotting the ball past Ederson.

That wasn’t the end of the drama, as Jurgen Klopp was sent off for an angry reaction to Bernardo Silva attempting to get a piggyback from Mohamed Salah (ironically similar to that of Guardiola’s after the disallowed goal).

City struggled to create any further chances and Liverpool secured three vital points, leaving them only three behind Manchester United who dropped points at home to Newcastle earlier today.

A win on Wednesday night against West Ham would see the Reds move only seven points behind Manchester City, a gap that has been closed on many occasions before.
