Liverpool have had plenty of ups and downs in 2022 and as it is coming to a close we have chose our top five Liverpool players of the year.

5. Virgil Van Dijk

The Dutchman hasn’t quite hit the high standards that he has set himself, but has still been one of the best if not the best defender in the world.

After performing extremely well between January and May, Van Dijk had a frustrating start to the 2022/23 season before picking up his form again in the past month or two.

4. Luis Diaz

The Colombian joined the Reds at the end of the Janaury transfer window and has been a hit with the fans ever since.

Diaz has everything you would want your winger to have, pace, skill, finishing, hard-work and plenty of creativity.

Despite picking up a major injury in October, the winger made the difference in Liverpool’s push for the Premier League title, in getting them to the Champions League final and also helping them to the domestic cup double last season.

It has been a fantastic debut year for the Colombian.

3. Thiago Alcantara

There aren’t many players more enjoyable to watch than Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard is so silky and smooth on the ball and is certainly not one to shy out of a tackle or breaking up the play.

When Thiago plays well, the rest of the team performs much more efficiently.

Not a week goes by where Liverpool fans aren’t in awe of the midfielder’s undeniable talent.

2. Mohamed Salah

The Egyptian helped the Reds on their way to the FA Cup and Carabao Cup as well as reaching the Champions League final and taking the Premier League title down to the final ten minutes of the season.

Salah picked up the Premier League top goalscorer award once again, for the third time since joining the Reds five years ago.

The winger has also made a fantastic start to the season, scoring 15 goals and assisting 5 in a poor Liverpool side this season.

His five minute hat-trick against Rangers in the Champions League was just one highlight from the past year.

1. Alisson Becker

In my opinion, Alisson has been Liverpool’s best player this year pretty comfortably.

The Brazilian has saved his side a crazy amount of points over the past year, and Liverpool would be much further down in the table this season if it wasn’t for the heroics of Alisson in between the sticks.

Alisson won the golden glove in 2022 for the second time since his move to Anfield in 2018 and with his current deal set to expire in 2027, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him pick up many more.
