Following a report from Liverpool correspondent James Pearce in the Athletic, many Reds supporters have flocked to praise the club’s ‘outstanding‘ gesture surrounding George Floyd – with defender Virgil van Dijk and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum apparently leading the team’s training tribute.

The two players, said to be deeply affected by the news, wanted to support the Black Lives Matter movement and organise a tribute to Floyd – with each squad member positioning themselves around the centre circle and placing their right knee on the Anfield turf.

Once the tribute finished, each player posted on social media with the caption ‘unity is strength‘ – prompting many Reds supporters to praise the gesture on Twitter.
