Liverpool have been liked with an abundance of defensive talent so far this season after long-term injuries to all of the club’s senior centre-back options have left them with a mountain to climb in the Premier League.

The Reds managed to sure up their defensive options on the last day of the transfer window in January but there is still an overriding feeling that the reinforcements won’t be up to par as back up next season for when the first-choice cavalry of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip return at the end of the current campaign.

Due to this, the club has been linked again with a move for Real Betis defender and Algerian international Aïssa Mandi according to SportsMediaset via LiverpoolEcho, with the 29-year-old defender available on a free transfer at the end of the season with his contract ending in just a few months time with the Spanish club.

Liverpool are reportedly keen to take advantage of his availability for free but will face competition from Italian giants AC Milan who are also looking at taking advantage of his availability in the coming months.

Mandi is a talented defender and has plenty of experience in one of the finest leagues in Europe – which is something that will be needed to bring that depth and experience to the Liverpool backline compared to the youth and inexperience that we have seen this season from the likes of Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips.

It will be interesting to see which avenue the club choose to go down in the summer but one thing is for sure, and that is that the club will need to back Jurgen Klopp in the window after the awful performances of this season.

What do you think Liverpool fans, would Aïssa Mandi be a good fit? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
