Rafa Benitez, speaking only hours after he revealed that he has just lost his father, feels that Liverpool have been handed a good draw for the last 16 of the Champions League.

Liverpool will face Benfica, who beat Manchester United to send them packing from the competition, but the general feel from the manager is that the team should fair OK against the Portuguese outfit – especially as the second leg will be played at Anfield.

The boss said: ‘I’m pleased to have avoided certain teams but we will face a very tough match against Benfica. It is not an easy draw but it is not the worst draw that it could have been either.’

He’s confident of success though due to the Reds recent fantastic form by adding: ‘They are one of the most famous sides in Europe and they’ve won the European Cup twice so we will treat them with the respect they deserve but we will approach the game with confidence in our own ability.’
