Liverpool have the chance to make history on Sunday as the Reds face Sao Paulo FC in the final of this years World Club Championship.

Steven Gerrard could be the first ever Liverpool captain to lift the World Club Championship trophy aloft.

We thought we take a brief look at the in’s and out’s of Sao Paulo ahead of the game.

Sao Paulo FC was founded back in 1935 after the financial collapse of Sao Paulo da Floresta FC.

The ‘tricolours’ as they are known, are one of the most succcessful clubs in Brazil, with an credible roll of honours including 21 State Championships, 3 National Championships, and 3 Copa Libertadores – the later they won for the third time to qualify for this tournament.

Whilst a lot of focus in South American football tends to look at teams such as River Plate and Boca Juniors, Sao Paulo are now gaining recognition they rightfully deserve under popular coach Paulo Autuori.

The team plays at their passionately loved ‘Morumbi’ stadium which holds 80,000 fans.

One of the men to watch out for is strangely enough their goalkeeper. Rogerio Ceni, who has played over 600 games for the club, has an eye for the goal. He takes freekicks and is the clubs chosen penalty taker and has scored an incredible 46 goals in his career at the club (he scored in the semi-finals of this competition in the 3 – 2 win over Al Ittihad from the penalty!).

Benitez will no doubt field his strongest XI against the side as they are full of tricky pacey players who all have an eye for goal.

Hyypia and Carragher will no doubt be under alot more pressure than they were against Deportivo Saprisso and will have to be on their guard with scoring possibilities coming from all angles.
