After last night’s impressive 3-0 victory over Leicester City to take the Reds joint-top of the Premier League, one midfielder in particular with a dominant performance in the middle of the park for Jurgen Klopp’s side – and that was Curtis Jones.

The young scouser made his second league start against the Foxes yesterday – and his performance did not get the recognition it deserved in my opinion.

These feelings were also felt by writer for Twenty3Sport Sam McGuire on Twitter, who tweeted a great graphic highlighting the 19-year-olds passing throughout the match.

It was a great performance from Jones, who has been selected by Klopp on a fair few occasions this season and is yet to look out of his depth alongside this Liverpool side – with the averaging a 91.7% pass accuracy during the game against the Foxes.

The German manager has been a big fan of Jones this season – and as McGuire says the player never looks out of place in the side, helping the Reds to control the tempo in the middle of the park, a trait and tactic that bodes well in a Klopp team.

I really think this shows the start of a great career with the Reds, with Jones’ talent clearly showing throughout the early days of his career and with Klopp guiding him through, I believe he could become one of the best players in the league for the club and maybe even future captain alongside fellow scouser Trent Alexander-Arnold.

It has been a while since we have seen two local lads come through the youth system to make their way in the squad and help lead the Reds to bigger and better things and that Was Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher – and I feel that Jones and Trent could replicate that impact in the future – especially if Jones carries on the form he is currently enjoying.
