David Ornstein: Liverpool in advanced talks with PSV for Cody Gakpo

|

Liverpool are extremely close to agreeing a deal for PSV forward, Cody Gakpo, according to reports from The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The Reds are set to hijack the move from under the noses of their Premier League rivals, Manchester United after they were set to sign the 23-year-old.

It is expected that the injuries to Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino have played a part in forcing Liverpool into early action ahead of the January transfer window.

The expected fee for the move is expected to be around £37million, and Gakpo will travel for a medical in the coming days.

Gakpo has been in world-class form so far this season, scoring 16 goals and assisting 17 goals in 22 appearances for PSV, as well as scoring three goals in five games for the Netherlands at the World Cup.

No player in Europe has more goal involvements in this campaign than the Dutch youngster, making this deal a very exciting one for Liverpool fans.

Liverpool are in desperate need of a left-winger and that is Gakpo’s natural position, as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is currently being used as a makeshift forward.

Gakpo can also slot into any role in the front three as well as a progressive role in the midfield.

Very exciting news for Liverpool fans and expect this one to progress fast.
