It has been incredible to see the start that Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has had on the squad since signing for the Reds in September, with the initial thought that he would be a good rotation player for the front three.

Instead, however, the Portuguese forward jumped straight into life on Merseyside and challenged the whole trio of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, and Mo Salah for a spot in the starting XI, scoring 9 goals in his first 17 starts in all competitions for the club and at one point keeping Firmino out of the squad.

Despite the start, Jota became another victim on the Liverpool physio table after picking up a knee injury against FC Midtjylland back at the start of December and has been out of action since – with the squad currently going through a stalemate upfront, failing to score in their last four Premier League games, his return is desperately needed.

Was Diogo Jota Liverpool's best signing in the summer?

Thankfully, The Atheltic’s James Pearce provided an update on the 24-year-olds fitness, as cited by AnfieldEdition on Twitter, that we could expect the forward to be back in action by early February…

I for one am desperate to have Jota back given the current situation upfront for the club, which as we know is down to the fact that we have our two best midfielders playing at centre-back alongside each other, which has caused the rest of the squads usual system to have to be parked aside for a while.

Jota is dynamic going forward and can operate in different roles upfront meaning he will provide another dimension for our forward line and hopefully help to start converting chances and scoring goals again for the club given the poor results and lack of firepower up front recently.

What do you think Liverpool fans, are you looking forward to seeing the return of Diogo Jota? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
