The January transfer window saw Liverpool take a dip into the market to sure up their defensive options for the remainder of the season after long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip ruled the trio out for the remainder of the season.

Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak were signed from Preston North End and Schalke 04 respectively and have started to settle into the squad – with Kabak enjoying some great form alongside academy graduate Nat Phillips over the last few games with the pair keeping back-to-back clean sheets.

One of the names that were linked with a move to the club in January and came so close to making a move to the club was Marseille’s Croatian defender Duje Caleta-Car, who almost joined the club on the last day of the transfer window and even went as close to getting on a private jet to Manchester to secure a £20 million deal.

The 24-year-old opened up on the interest from the Reds on Tuesday with Sky Sports stating that he was very happy that the Reds were interested given that Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in Europe and it showed that it was an honour for such a big club wanted him.

He also went on to say that joining the club and playing in one of the best leagues in the world would have been a massive step forward in his career but for now he is focused on Marseille. However, he didn’t rule out the possibility of a move in the future saying “we will see what happens”.
