According to a report from Marca, Liverpool are continuing to keep tabs on Sevilla defender Diego Carlos – with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp hopeful of finding a solid partner for Virgil Van Dijk.

Carlos, who has appeared 25 times this season for the La Liga club according to WhoScored, impressing under former Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui, is currently on our radar even despite him recently stating to Estadio Deportivo that he isn’t interested in hearing about other teams at present.

However, as per this report, the defender also claimed that if he does leave one day, it will be for one of the biggest clubs in the world – with Liverpool debatably in that conversation given our past success.

Compared to his Sevilla teammates, Carlos has racked up the most clearances out of the entire squad on average this season, all the while establishing himself in high regard – with the 27 y/o potentially being a strong candidate to partner Van Dijk at the back.

Back up defender Dejan Lovren is out of contract in 2021, with Klopp eager to replace him with someone more capable of covering our back line.

Judging by these stats, you could consider Carlos to be a candidate, with Brazilian manager Fabiano Soares singing his praises to ESPN Brazil back in February. The former Estoril player branded him ‘dynamic, intense and fast’, as well as claiming that there are some Real Madrid defenders who are in fact worse.

Taking this into account, it may not be the worst option to swoop for Carlos as a potential back up.
