The January transfer window is just around the corner – with clubs circling around the market to get the best talent mid-season, with the Reds’ squad being eyed up by some of Europe’s elite.

The newest rumour doing the rounds could spell trouble for Jurgen Klopp’s side, with Inter Milan now interested in the signature of Dutch midfield maestro Gini Wijnaldum.

Wijnaludm joined the Reds back in 2016 for just shy of £25 million and has since gone on to make 199 appearances for the club, scoring 19 goals with 16 assists in that time. The Dutchman has become an integral part of Klopp’s squad, with him playing a big part of both our Champions League and Premier League-winning campaigns.

It has already been said that Klopp would be silly to let Wijnaldum leave and that keeping hold of the player with a contract extension is a must – and is more important than making a new signing. However, with his contract running down and expiring at the end of the current season, Wijnaldum could easily leave at a cut-price or even worse on a free transfer if something is not done by the Reds to resolve the situation.

Inter Milan CEO Guiseppe Marotta has reportedly added Wijnaldum to his wishlist of players ahead of the upcoming winter and summer transfer windows – and with Liverpool yet to agree on a deal with the midfielder, the worry is that he could have his head turned with the idea of a new challenge elsewhere.

Spanish club Barcelona had already been linked with the player during the summer but failed to make any real concrete contact with Liverpool.

I really feel the Reds need to step up their efforts to tie Wijnaldum down for at least a few more years, with his role in the squad too valuable to lose.
