After the Reds’ 2-0 loss to Atalanta last night, the Reds looked poor all over the pitch and failed to make an impact on the Italian side throughout the game.

In a game where the whole team never really managed to get off the mark, it is hard to take a look at an individual player to pick out the best aspects of their game but I did manage to find one player that looked to be the best on the pitch for Liverpool – and that was James Milner.

The 34-year-old received the highest WhoScored match rating with a 6.52/10. As well as this he averaged 2 tackles, 1 clearance, and 1 successful dribble during the game, with 69 completed passes and an 81.2% pass completion rate – Milner also managed 5 long balls throughout the game but with no avail, failing to create anything for the front three and vice versa.

It was a strange game for the club but whilst watching it genuinely seemed as though Milner was the only player fighting for each ball or trying to pull the Reds forward or counter-attack after regaining possession from the Italian side.

Atalanta played fantastically well considering the 5-0 victory over them last time out, leaving the Reds with one game still to win in the Champions League to qualify for the knockout stages. Gasperini’s side deserved the victory, taking them to joint second in the group alongside Ajax on 7 points.

The Reds face Brighton this weekend back in the Premier League and will no doubt be wanting to bounce back to victory after a poor performance in Europe.
