It proved to be a frustrating result for the Reds last night, who failed to convert during their 0-0 draw with Manchester United at Anfield – leaving Liverpool in fourth spot and United two points ahead of the rest in first in the Premier League table.

The game had plenty of talking points with Liverpool still looking flat up top and failing to convert their chances – but one talking point from the match has been the big mistake from referee Paul Tierney who blew the half-time whistle seven seconds early when the Reds were through on goal.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was questioned on the moment after the game during his post-match interview with Sky Sports, with the midfielder sharing the squad’s frustration with the decision, stating that he felt Sadio Mané was through on goal…

I agree with everything the skipper says, Mané was clearly through with a goalscoring opportunity and Teirney clearly blows the whistle early despite the Reds being in the position they were.

There could be a case that the whistle was blown when the ball was in a neutral position so it wouldn’t matter whether Liverpool was through on goal or not but to blow it seven seconds early just as a through ball is being played is ludicrous and surely needs a closer look as to why Tierney did so.

I think we were let down with that decision yesterday and could have gone into half time 1-0 up but as Henderson states, we had plenty of other chances to get a goal and nick a win and we failed to do so despite the myriad of chances created with Liverpool’s front line continuously finding pockets in the United defence but there finishing boots just weren’t on yesterday.
