Saturday lunchtime saw the Reds cruise to their largest win of the Premier League season so far, with a 7-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Goals from Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, and Mo Salah helped to take the Reds four points clear at the top of the table ahead of second-place Leicester City.

It was a fantastic performance from Liverpool straight from the off, with their finishing and goal-scoring abilities proving to be world-class with Palace having little time of quality to stop any of the club’s seven goals. Japanese forward Minamino took the lead for the club after just three minutes thanks to some great work from Mané in the box to lay the ball off perfectly for him to slot it home.

Mané doubled the lead on the 25th minute with a great turn and finish into the bottom left corner, with Firmino providing a quick and slick pass through the Palace defence to set the Senegalese winger up nicely for his first goal in 9 games.

Liverpool’s third of the game was just sublime, with Firmino securing the ball on the edge of the Liverpool box before supplying Andy Robertson with a wide ball on the left-hand side, which saw the pair make their way up the pitch in no time at all, only for the Scotsman to supply Firmino with the best one-two I’ve ever seen with an inch-perfect cross straight back into Firmino’s path for him to control the ball and slot it past Vicente Guaita. It was as beautiful a goal as I’d ever seen and once again shows just how great a player Firmino is.

Captain Jordan Henderson got himself involved too, with a layoff from Trent Alexander-Arnold on the edge of the box enough for Henderson the place a lovely curling finish into the left side netting to make it four for the Reds.

Salah coming on the pitch in the 57th minute wasn’t something I was expecting to see – I was surprised the Egyptian was on the bench in the first place but after Liverpool made it 4-0 I thought the winger would be rested for the whole game. Much to my surprise the forward was brought on and continued to pile on more misery for Palace.

His assist for Firmino’s second of the game and Liverpool’s fifth was soon met by a brace for himself, finishing the Reds’ tally at seven for the game and securing the top spot in the Premier League for now.

It was a genuinely incredible performance from Liverpool and one that showed the Reds are back to their best even with the absence of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
