Liverpool midfield target completes move to Wolves

|

Liverpool midfield target, Joao Gomes, has completed a permanent move to Wolves from Flamengo- the club has confirmed.

The Reds had been linked with a move for the Brazilian over the past few windows, but their reluctance to sign a midfielder until the summer transfer window has meant they have lost out on another target.

The 21-year-old becomes Wolves’ sixth new signing of the window and has signed a five-and-a-half year deal at the Molyneux Stadium.

The announcement has only further frustrated Liverpool supporters as their season continues to go from bad to worse, with the owners refusing to make any moves until the summer.

Many believe the midfield is the main cause for concern for Jurgen Klopp and that reinforcements are much needed.

Gomes is a fantastic box-to-box midfielder with plenty of energy and had become a key player in the middle of the pitch at Flamengo, where he made 41 appearances last season.

Liverpool supporters had been suggesting that the youngster could be a perfect fit to fill the void left by Gini Wijnaldum’s departure in 2021.

One positive way to look at this deal going through is that it may suggest that Matheus Nunes could be on his way to Anfield, whether that be in this window or more likely in the summer transfer window.
