Yesterday saw Liverpool complete the loan signing of Ozan Kabak from German outfit Schalke 04 with an option to buy at the end of the season – with the Reds managing to complete the deal before the 11 pm deadline.

The news was broken throughout the day with Liverpool’s initial interest in the defender hitting a roadblock at first after Schalke issues concern over finding a replacement in time for the Turkish youngster – but this was eased with them taking on Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi joining the German club on a free transfer. Not only this, but Schalke initially wanted the loan to come with an obligation to buy rather than an option but the club managed to wriggle their way out of that loophole.

Michael Edwards and the Reds agreed an initial £1 million loan deal with a potential of £500,000 worth in bonuses depending on Champions League appearances, with the option to buy Kabak at the end of the current campaign for an agreed fee of £18 million, as confirmed by freelance Liverpool journalist David Lynch on Twitter…

It will be a great opportunity for Kabak to grasp with both hands given the supposed ‘audition period’ of his initial six-month loan which will give the fans and Jurgen Klopp a good amount of time to get an idea of the quality of player we are dealing with in Kabak.

The youngster joins the Reds alongside Preston North End’s Ben Davies who signed for the club for a fee of £2 million and will no doubt be a valued asset alongside Kabak with the Reds still suffering with options in defence.

Liverpool will be hoping the new additions will aid them in their attempts to retain their Premier League title and with Davies joining the Reds with a good catalogue of experience behind him and Kabak making his way to Merseyside after a glowing reference from Schalke manager and friend of Klopp David Wagner – time will tell whether our new faces will be the right men for the job.
