With the January transfer window finally closing yesterday, Liverpool finally managed to address their centre-back issues with two new additions to the squad in the form of Preston North End’s Ben Davies and Schalke 04’s Ozan Kabak.

The Reds had gone much of the season so far without their first-choice pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez after their long-term injuries sustained back in October and November – which initially led to Liverpool having to rely on youth such as Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips, as well as midfielders such as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho as makeshift centre-backs.

Finally, though, Jurgen Klopp managed to bring in the players he desired with long-term target Ozan Kabak finally making his way to Anfield on an initial long until the end of the current campaign with an option to buy for just £18 million in the summer.

Davies joins to club with a glowing recommendation from The Athletic’s Simon Hughes who posted a fantastic analysis on Twitter yesterday of the type of player we are about to see for the Reds – with many high hopes for the type of player that Davies can become, with Klopp himself excited at the addition to his team…

There are high hopes for both of our new defenders and hopefully, they will adjust well to life at Anfield and we will see them feature sooner rather than later.

It is unlikely that the pair will star alongside one another in the near future with them never having played together – but Davies could make his debut for the Reds tomorrow against Brighton given the more time he has to settle in compared to Kabak who is only just making his way to Liverpool.
