Speaking to Stadium Astro, ex-Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique has tipped the Reds to make a move for playmaker and former star Philippe Coutinho this summer following reports that he could be made available for a move – citing the fact we ‘need a playmaker’

Coutinho, who made 201 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 54 goals and assisting 45 of his teammates before his high-profile move to La Liga giants Barcelona, is currently out-of-favour at the Nou Camp following a loan spell at Bayern Munich.

Should Liverpool re-sign Coutinho?

Yes, get the deal done

Yes, get the deal done

No, not worth the effort

Indeed, the Brazilian, while impressing in the Bundesliga over flashes, doesn’t appear to be part of Quique Setien’s future plans – so much so that he has been consistently linked with a Premier League return over the last few months.

Once a favourite at Anfield, Coutinho opted to leave Merseyside back in January 2018 for a large fee amounting to £142 million – but he could be set for an English reunion given recent reports claiming he is surplus to requirement in Catalonia.

Now, ex-Reds defender Enrique has urged Liverpool to re-sign the £240,000-per-week ace, claiming he could be the answer to our creative midfield conundrum and that no No.10 could be better given the fact he has proven Premier League experience.

Despite our financial difficulties brought on by recent events, as Enrique highlights in the interview, a move for the 28-year-old star should still be weighed up according to our former full-back – especially considering he wouldn’t need to adapt to the pace of the English top flight.

Once labelled ‘brilliant‘ by manager Jurgen Klopp, it’s clear Coutinho possesses the ability, but whether or not we will join the queue for his signature remains to be seen.
