Liverpool to enter talks for £50million World Cup Star

|

Liverpool are set to enter talks over the possible signing of Netherlands star, Cody Gakpo, according to reports from Voetbal International.

The expected cost of the transfer is expected to be upwards of £50million as the forward continues to take the Qatar World Cup by storm.

Reports also suggest that Liverpool will face competition from several Premier League clubs, most notably Manchester United, and also that Gakpo almost signed for Leeds United in the summer, but the move fell through as Netherlands manager, Louis Van Gaal told the forward he would have a better chance of going to the World Cup should he stay at PSV.

Gakpo has scored in all three of the Netherlands’ games in the tournament, scoring against Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar.

The 23-year-old has scored 17 goals and created 18 assists so far this season for both club and country, with no player in Europe currently on more total goal involvements.

Talking to Sky Sports, Netherlands legend Ronald Do Boer said: “Talking about Gakpo himself, he’s a great youngster. He has speed, dribble but most importantly he has a great shot, he’s direct to the goal and he finds the net quite easily.”

The move wouldn’t necessarily be a cheap one for the Reds, but Gakpo has become one of the hottest properties in world football and could prove to be an elite piece of business should Liverpool get the move over the line.
