Last night saw Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool claim top spot in the Premier League on 28 points after their 2-1 win against Tottenham at Anfield.

Liverpool started the game strong with most of the possession during the first 25 minutes. Chances galore came for the Reds with a great piece of football coming between Sadio Mané, Andy Robertson, and Mo Salah, with the Egyptian’s shot going straight into Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’s hands.

The Reds finally broke the deadlock in the 26th minute with a great bit of work from youngster Curtis Jones in the box, who played the ball off well for Salah whose shot deflected off of Toby Alderweireld and looped into the Spurs goal.

It didn’t take long for Spurs to make their way back in the game with a great counter-attack, which saw Son break away from Rhys Williams and come one on one with Alisson, with the South Korean slotting the ball passed the Brazilian’s left-hand side for a sweet finish the bring them level.

It seemed to be a first-half dominated by the Reds in possession and chances but Tottenham managed a great counter to nick a goal off of Liverpool.

I think that Spurs did really well to keep themselves in the game given Liverpool’s dominance throughout the first 45 but there is no taking away from how well Jurgen Klopp’s side was playing, with another goal imminent during the second half.

Throughout the second half, Liverpool continued to dominate the game with a multitude of chances – but Spurs almost managed to take the lead out of nowhere in the 61st minute, after Steven Bergwijn broke away with his shot coming off the post. It was a close call for the Reds and made them remember the threat that Spurs can cause out of nothing.

Liverpool played so well throughout and it was definitely one of our finer performances so far this season despite the lack of conversion in the final third. Chances came by the boatload for Salah and Mané but both failed to add to the tally from the first half.

It seemed at one point as though the Reds would never nick a winner, then in the 89th minute after a corner from Robertson met the head of Roberto Firmino to give Liverpool the lead they deserved throughout the whole game.

From all of Liverpool’s performances this season, this one was one of my favourites and really showed some fantastic counter-attacking football from both sides. Much to Tottenham’s dispair the Reds were just too strong and Brazilian Firmino managed a fantastic winning goal to give him that boost of confidence that he so greatly needed.
