Liverpool have been linked with a sensational move for young Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde, with the 17-year-old also on the radar of Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to reports.

The young Spanish left-back has been with the Catalan club since the age of 8 and has recently drawn the attention of first-team manager Ronald Koeman. Balde has been tipped as the predecessor to Jordi Alba at the Nou Camp but it appears as though the youngster could be on the move.

The Reds have often been a fan of young promising talent rather than opting for the older and more experienced individuals on occasion – and Balde certainly fits the bill for the type of player that Jurgen Klopp would likely look out for.

The recent injury to Andy Robertson means the whole of the club’s first-choice XI is currently sidelined and out of action for now and with the January transfer window fast approaching, there is a possibility of a new face joining the Reds in defence. New boy Kostas Tsimikas is currently in contention for a run of games given the injury to Robertson but that shouldn’t stop the Reds from wanting to invest further in that position with Balde.

Would you like to see Tsimikas play more?

No

Having not seen Balde play it would be unfair to place judgment on his ability – but the reviews and interest from both Liverpool and Chelsea clearly have merit for the youngster’s ability and I wouldn’t be opposed to it if the Reds were to try and secure the youngsters signature.

Koeman has reportedly been thinking about handing the 17-year-old his debut for Barcelona with him impressing in the youth ranks – but with their next game coming against Atletico Madrid it is unlikely that the Dutchman would throw Balde in at the deep end like that.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see the fate of the youngsters future in due course.

What do you think Liverpool fans, could we see Alejandro Balde at the club? Let us know in the comments section down below…
