Harvey Elliott was in hot demand last summer as Liverpool won the race to secure his services from Fulham.

Before his move to Merseyside, he became the youngest ever Premier League player at 16 years and 30 days old during a game between the Cottagers and Wolves in May 2019, as per BBC Sport.

Elliott was wanted by a host of clubs, including Manchester City, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain and recently signed a professional contract, three months after his 17th birthday.

The £3.24m-rated starlet sat down with The Athletic and spoke about how he ended up at Liverpool and what was involved before his move to Anfield.

Asked about whether he was wanted by Real Madrid and offered a tour by Sergio Ramos, he said, “yeah, that’s true”. “I turned it down because of what he did to Mo.”

Elliott was in the stands in Kyiv when Liverpool were beaten by Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League final in 2018. A game which was marred by controversy as Ramos tangled with Mohamed Salah and the Egyptian was forced to leave the field with a shoulder injury.

He added that he grew up idolising the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez, which leaves no surprises that he chose to move to Anfield.

The 17-year-old has had a phenomenal breakthrough season at Anfield in the eyes of the fans and looks set to be a part of Jurgen Klopp’s side for the foreseeable future.

Elliott recently got hold of a Premier League winners’ medal having made eight first-team appearances in all competitions, but only played six minutes in the league, as per TransferMarkt.

It is exciting times for the club. Not only are the Reds the current kings of England and Europe simultaneously, but they also have a bright future with a number of talented youngsters in the team, with Elliott being one of them.

Time will tell whether he will breakthrough into the first team. But his attitude and persistence will boost his chances of that happening if he remains focused.
