Liverpool’s Sporting Director to leave the club

|

Liverpool’s Sporting Director, Julian Ward, will leave the club at the end of the season according to Paul Joyce of The Times.

Ward only took over the role as Sporting Director at the end of last season, when Michael Edwards’ ten-year spell at the club came to an end.

Just six months later, it is well-known that Ward will set down from his role at the end of the season.

The summer signings of Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay are all down to the work done by Julian Ward, with many being left with mixed feelings following the summer transfer window.

This change is expected to signify the first of many, as the question marks surrounding the ownership of Liverpool continue as Fenway Sports Group continue to explore a possible sale of the club.

Another question circulating social media, is what does this mean for Liverpool’s January transfer window?

Not only do people believe FSG will be reluctant to inject money into transfers whilst looking to sell the club, but also now will Julian Ward be as committed to the role if he is due to leave at the end of the season.

The January window will certainly be an interesting one for the Reds, with the squad in desperate need of being strengthened as they look to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
