Liverpool’s results have been all over the place this season with big performances such as our 7-0 win over Crystal Palace and our 5-0 win over Atalanta – but overall it has been a mixed season.

The Reds squad have been a big part of this mixed form with many individuals not performing up to the standard and quality that they can and have done in previous seasons – and one player, in particular, has reportedly been overlooked as of late despite showing some positive performances when playing.

Takumi Minamino has been kept on the sidelines recently due to not showing enough effort or commitment in training according to The Athletic’s James Pearce, via AnfieldWatch on Twitter after speculation over a possible injury…

It is a shame that Minamino hasn’t been selected much since his positive display against Crystal Palace where the Japanese winger kicked off the scoring in our seven-goal thriller – with him clearly not proving to Jurgen Klopp that he deserves another chance in the starting XI.

Is Takumi Minamino good enough for Liverpool?

Yes

No

This is likely due to his lack of defensive effort and covers in games with first-choice Sadio Mané and Mo Salah often doing a good job in both areas of attacking and defending in games in terms of the counter-press style that Klopp likes to play.

I’m hopeful that Minamino can up this side of his game in the coming weeks as he has shown glimpses of just how talented he is a how big a player he can be for Liverpool. He is a great footballer and fantastic going forward at times, always playing with a smile on his face – so let’s hope he can make that step up.
