Since joining the club in 2018 for £54 million from RB Leipzig – Naby Keïta has shown glimpses of the ability and skill that he possesses but has seen his career on Merseyside plagued by injuries so far…

Keïta has suffered 8 separate injuries during his Liverpool career, missing a total of 28 games all told – clearly showing the lack of time or run of form where the midfielder has been able to properly prove himself and show his ability to the Liverpool faithful.

The Guinean’s form has been proven before when at Leipzig, with his stats proving he is a versatile and tenacious box to box midfielder who could really help to unlock things for the Reds this season is he manages to stay fit and get a good run of games to build up some form.

Who is our best midfielder?

During his debut season in 2016/17 for Leipzig, Keïta scored 8 goals with 7 assists from central midfield, as well as amplifying his defensive qualities of his game averaging 2.6 tackles, 2.6 interceptions, and 0.9 clearances – highlighting his ability to break up opposition play in the middle of the park, a clear trait that suits Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.

Keïta is also a great carrier of the ball, averaging 2.7 dribbles per game in that aforementioned debut season for Leipzig – there is evidence around showing him in games for the German club and dictating and driving play forward after dispossessing his opponents and scoring or assisting goals as a result.

I believe that if Naby Keïta can stay fit and find his form again, he could really help to take this Liverpool team a step further alongside new boy Thiago in a revolutionised midfield – with both players possessing great tackling ability in midfield and both great dribblers with fantastic passing ability.
