Opinion – Darwin Nunez is silencing all critics

|

The World Cup comes are a good time for Darwin Nunez. He leaves for the World Cup with 9 goals and 2 assists in 18 Liverpool appearances. He now gets to spend time and partner with Luis Suarez who will certainly only help him become a better Liverpool striker.

Darwin Nunez is now averaging a goal or assist every 81 minutes at Liverpool. After getting the consistent game time he is slowly converting all the doubters into believers. After his match-winning brace against Southampton, he now has the same amount of Premier League goals as Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus in 600 fewer minutes. Now, Darwin Nunez has scored 10 goals in his last 10 starts for Klopp’s Liverpool.

He surely has a long way before we can call him an established first-team goal scorer, but statistics do not lie. If you actually compare his performances to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, it is somewhat like this.

Goals – 9 / 23
xA – 0.21 / 0.15
xG – 1.12 / 1.05
Pass % (final 3rd) – 76% / 74%
Chances created – 1.53 / 1.26
Shots – 5.67 / 4.57
Shots (on target) – 2.65 / 2.51
Aerial % – 44% / 39%
Ball recoveries – 3.15 / 0.19

Other than goals scored, the Uruguyan striker is performing a little better on each index. With some game time and once Liverpool has all their players back from injury, we can be sure that Nunez will get onto the end of a few more goals. The 23 year old is on the brink of exploding onto the scene and if he comes back from the World Cup on a high, we could see him bag a bunch of goals for Liverpool.

James Milner who made his 600th Premier League appearance spoke to LFCTV after the game regarding his young and talented teammate Nuñez and said, “It is great that Darwin is banging in goals. He has settled in pretty quick. He is still learning the language, he has a great sense of humour.”

They Liverpool and Anfield faithful will be hoping to see much more of the Darwin “chaos” after the World Cup.
