The Reds produced a dominant performance last night in their 3-0 win against Leicester City, with many impressive individual performances on show – but one player, in particular, impressed me.

Fabinho’s return to the side provided further quality, but most importantly, experience to the Liverpool defense alongside Joel Matip with the absences of Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk for most of the season.

The £54 million rated defensive midfielder had been sidelined since the club’s 2-0 victory over FC Midtjylland in the Champions League in October but made his return to action last night and more than impressed in defence alongside Matip.

Fabinho averaged a 97.6% pass success rate against the Foxes from defence, making one interception and 3 clearances during the game too – in fact, the Brazilian held the most possession during the game out of any other Liverpool player, with his time on the ball totaling to 7.7% of the clubs total of 56.4% possession in the game.

It is key to remember as well that Fabinho is playing out of position at centre-back despite his evident capabilities in the position – he is much better suited as a CDM and has proven himself to be the worlds best in that position, but there is no denying his talent and performance in defence for the Reds.

I feel Fabinho will be one of our most important players this season, with his versatility something that cannot be bought or matched – and with the heavy schedule ahead for the Reds before the end of the year, depth in numbers will be very important and the midfielder return couldn’t have come at a better time for the club.
