It is clear that Liverpool haven’t been at their best this season with their attempts at retaining the Premier League title all but dashed, with Jurgen Klopp and his side now facing the reality of a race for a top-four spot.

The club finally managed to fill the wholes left by Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip in the January transfer window with the permanent signing of Ben Davies and the loan signing of Ozan Kabak which has given the Reds a lifeline for their current season’s ambitions – with them currently fourth in the league and in the Round of 16 in the Champions League.

Despite this, there is still an overwhelming feeling that Klopp will need further backing in the summer from FSG with the squad still not as strong as it possibly could be with plenty of dead-wood still floating around Anfield, with The Times’ Henry Winter sharing those opinions as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter…

It’s not often that I rant and rave for us to spend all the money in the world and just sign the best players available right now as I know it isn’t as simple as that – these things are meticulous operations with plenty of working components as well as the fact that the club doesn’t have an endless pit of money unlike some.

Should FSG be under any pressure?

Definitely not

They need to spend

Yes, not good enough

However, I do agree with Winter that FSG will need to invest a substantial amount if possible in trying to strengthen our squad further than just the starting XI. We all know that our strongest starting squad is one of the best in the world but when you look to the bench, it doesn’t even cut close to the quality in front of them on the pitch.

This is why Winter also feels the club needs to have a bit of a clearout too which in turn will free funds for this rebuild of squad depth that is more than needed for the Reds to continue to compete at the top – and I more than agree.
