At least we tried to make something happen.

But when it comes to transfer deals, you need two teams to tango, and in this situation it appears as though we were left alone on the dance floor. Marko Grujic did eventually make a move late in the window, signing for FC Porto on a season-long loan deal.

I spoke after deadline day about how we could have had a better window if we’d have managed to sell someone like Grujic, and apparently that was nearly the case.

According to Sportbild (via SportWitness), German side Werder Bremen were in a position to try and make a move for the Serbian, but having made a few other deals near the end of the window, they just couldn’t find the money to get the deal to come together.

Will Grujic leave Liverpool by this time next year?

Yes

Yes

No

No

I guess that’s just how it works sometimes, and in this situation if we were looking to generate some money, getting his wages off the books is better than getting nothing off the books. Hopefully he’ll be able to perform well with the Portuguese side, because as I’m not sure that he has much of a future at the club, in the same way that I don’t think Xherdan Shaqiri does either.

And with a contract that ends in 2023, he’s at that sweet spot in his deal where we can get some good money for him if we want to sell him on, which I think is the best option for both sides going forward?

What about you? Are you annoyed that Grujic didn’t leave permanently? Or do you think he still has a future at the club.
