These past few days I have been praising the club for adding more strength in depth to the team.

It’s so that we can rest players a lot more often rather than having to rely on the same faces over and over again, something I think played a massive part in us falling short of both the 100 mark and going undefeated last season, with seven players playing more than 45 games.

So when I saw the latest move that we have been linked with, even though it isn’t scheduled to happen until next summer, if it happens at all, makes me think that we’re on course for another great move that can help us compete on a lot more fronts going forward.

Did we have a good transfer window overall?

According to a report in Sport Bild in Germany, Liverpool and Manchester United will battle it out for RB Leipzig’s French defender Dayot Upamecano. A highly rated, ball-playing defender, the 21-year-old has been something of a young prodigy, having racked up more than 150 appearances so far in his career despite his young age, and has even made his breakthrough into the French national side this year.

And a clause in his contract means that he will be available to sign for just €40m next summer when his deal changes.

With Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip both approaching age 30, although not totally over the hill yet, it is time to start looking at who can take their places for the next decade and beyond, and whilst the 23 year-old Joe Gomez is a prime candidate, he’s going to need someone to play alongside him, and someone like Upamecano could be right up our alley.

What about you? Do you think that Upamecano would be a great signing for Liverpool? Or would you rather we looked somewhere else?
