Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has admitted that he has grown tired of the persistent comparisons between himself and the Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney.

The Scotland captain was crowned a Premier League champion at the end of June as is part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad that has now won the Champions League and the Club World Cup together.

His eye-catching performances have led to online debates regarding Robertson and Tierney as to who is the better player, which is not something that the 26-year-old particularly cares for.

Speaking on the Lockdown Tactics podcast, Robertson elaborated on he has grown tired with the constant similarity checks between himself and his compatriot.

Should comparisons be made between Robertson and Tierney?

“I’ve spoken to KT about it before,’ he said. “Me and him are probably sick to death of everyone comparing us. One good performance from each of us and it’s one of us is better than the other.

“It’s just two players playing at a good level.

“It gets a bit tough when everyone in Scotland starts comparing you. Steve Clarke will have his own ideas and whatever he does it’s for the best of the team. Whether that’s playing one of us or two of us, we both have to deal with that.”

Robertson went on to describe Tierney as a “fantastic player” and believes that he is excellent with what he does for club and country.

The man himself has received similar praise. Ex-Reds left-back Fabio Aurelio previously singled him out for praise and said that he was a “complete player”, highlighting the defender’s Scottish “courage” drive to keep him improving his all-round game at Anfield.

It must be frustrating from Robertson’s point of view. But unfortunately, this will forever be part of football.

Supporters of all clubs will always try and argue who is the better team and who has the better players until balls are no longer being kicked in stadiums.
