England’s biggest football clubs, Liverpool and Manchester United, are hunting for new ownership. These are undoubtedly unprecedented times for both clubs as they are simultaneously looking for such massive changes in ownership.

Fenway Sports Group put Liverpool up for sale about one month ago. They began looking for potential investors for a minority stake but then said they were willing to hear any offers for a total sale if they aligned with the future and ethos of Liverpool.

There have been a lot of potential buyer names thrown up for Liverpool. Rumours have it that non-state-owned consortiums from Qatar and Saudi Arabia are involved, while there is a potential interest from the United States. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has rejected the chance to purchase Liverpool.

The bank Goldman Sachs had offered Ratcliffe the chance to buy the Merseyside club, but he rejected it. As reported by Manchester Evening News, the reason for doing so is that Ratcliffe is a fan of bitter rivals Manchester United and is looking to launch an official bid to sign them.

Ratcliffe currently owns Ligue 1 side OGC Nice and has repeatedly stated his commitment to the French club despite fishing to purchase a big-name team in the Premier League.

This decision showcases how two big teams going up for sale simultaneously can turn the heads of potential buyers and create a bidding war if the same buyer is involved.
