Liverpool have been sent a clear message by Bayern Munich regarding the possible transfer for the Spanish midfielder Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

What’s been said?

We have been strongly linked with a move for the 37-cap international before the summer transfer window opened, with delays to the proceedings having been caused by the Bundesliga giants’ involvement in last season’s Champions League, which they went on to win in Lisbon.

Thiago has been at Bayern since 2013 and has enjoyed great success at the club over the years, winning the league title every season since his arrival with four DFB-Pokals to his name.

But with one year left on his contract, it looks as if his time in Bavaria could be coming to an end, with Liverpool heavily interested in obtaining his services for our Premier League title defence this coming season.

Bayern’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has been speaking once again about Thiago’s situation. He told Welt Am Sonntag, via journalist Tobi Altschaffl, that his club are “expecting an offer in days”, adding that it would be painful to see him leave because of how well he performs in the big games.

Well-respected transfer guru Fabrizio Romano posted on Twitter early this morning that Thiago wants a move to the Premier League this summer but his side will not sell for less than €30m (£27m).

‘Come and get him’ plea

It’s fair to say that we have been getting excited about the prospect of Thiago coming to Liverpool. Unfortunately, some obstacles stand in our way regarding many different financial factors that need to be considered.

Going into the new season, we are going to continue losing money regarding matchday revenue and merchandising, which is something that has already seen moves for Timo Werner and Jamal Lewis fall through.

Will Liverpool manage to land Thiago?

Another thing is that Thiago is available for free in six months, which I can understand why we have not offered the €30m asking price as it stands.

It seems that we are playing our cards close to our chest, while Bayern are issuing a ‘come and get him’ plea. Patience is the key with this one, and I doubt it will be sorted quickly. But I have faith in sporting director Michael Edwards and his team to get this one over the line, even if that means having to wait 12 months to get him on a free transfer.
