Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White has been urged to join Liverpool this summer by his former manager.

What’s been said?

The 22-year-old recently returned to the South Coast following a promising loan spell at Leeds United last season, where he was a key figure in the Whites securing promotion for the first time since 2004.

During his time Marcelo Bielsa’s side, he managed to score just once and provided two assists from 49 appearances (as per TransferMarkt), while gathering some precious first-team minutes.

White has only made two outings for Brighton and looks like he could be on his way out of the Amex Stadium this summer.

Liverpool have been one of the teams that have been heavily linked with a move, with the Seagulls asking for a price tag of £30m, as per Sky Sports.

Speaking to TalkSport2, as cited by SussexLive, Michael Flynn, who was White’s manager during his time at Newport County, believes that his former player should make the move to Merseyside and believes that the guidance from Jurgen Klopp and Pep Ljinders will benefit him immensely.

“I’d love to see him at Liverpool. I know Pep Lijnders, the assistant, he’s an unbelievable coach.

“Jurgen Klopp, as a manager, gets the best out of all his players. I can just see him improving again.”

Brighton have already rejected two bids from Leeds United in the region on £18.5m and £22m, which could leave the door open for Liverpool to swing in and get their man.

Liverpool will stand their ground

Deals have already fallen through this summer due to financial constraints that the Reds have set themselves.

Both Timo Werner and Jamal Lewis looked like they were Anfield bound before the Reds embarked on their pre-season adventures but ultimately fell through as the Merseysiders were not willing to pay the high price tags for both players.

It seems unlikely that the Reds will alter their stance, as they look towards their title defence and with the lack of matchday revenue coming in until further notice.

With new left-back Kostas Tsimikas the club’s only inbound player at this time, time will tell as to whether any further additions will be made to the squad to bolster it, or whether they will hold out until January to make their move.
