Brentford v Liverpool: Starting XI Prediction

|

Liverpool travel to London to face Brentford in their opening game of 2022, with the chance to make it five wins on the bounce in the Premier League.

Here is the lineup we expect Jurgen Klopp to go with for the game:

Goalkeeper- Alisson

The Brazilian will keep his place in between the sticks for the Reds due to his phenomenal form and ability in a Liverpool shirt.

Backup goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, is reported to be suffering from a virus so is expected to miss this one again like against Leicester City.

Defence- Trent, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas

World Cup finalist, Ibou Konate, will partner Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of the defence to give Joel Matip a needed rest.

Kostas Tsimikas will come in at left-back to cover Andy Robertson who was substituted due to a minor injury in Liverpool’s victory against Leicester on Friday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will continue at right-back before most likely being replaced by either Calvin Ramsay or James Milner for the Reds’ FA Cup game against Wolves on Saturday night.

Midfield- Fabinho, Thiago, Elliott

Fabinho will replace Jordan Henderson at the base of the midfield after missing the Leicester game due to the birth of his son.

Henderson has been rushed back into plenty of football after being heavily involved at the World Cup for England, and it showed in his performance on Friday so a break may be needed.

Ahead of the Brazilian, Thiago Alcantara and Harvey Elliott will continue in midfield mainly due to a lack of options with Naby Keita not quite fit enough to start and Klopp is unlikely to take the risk of starting Stefan Bajcetic despite his significant progress this season.

Forward- Salah, Nunez, Carvalho

After two bang-average performances from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at left-wing, I expect that Klopp will bring in Fabio Carvalho in that position.

Both Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez will have to play once again as Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz all remain out injured.

New signing, Cody Gakpo, is unlikely to be available as paperwork with the FA and Premier League is still yet to be finalised due to the New Years bank holiday in the UK.

Bench- Adrian, Gomez, Matip, Robertson, Henderson, Bajcetic, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Doak.
