This summer was a big one for the club in the transfer window.

After winning the Premier League last season, it was important for Jurgen Klopp to strengthen his squad ahead of their defence of the title this season.

Some big names came through the doors at Anfield, with Thiago Alcantara, Kostas Tsimikas, and namely, Diogo Jota making the move to Merseyside. The latter, however, has been one of the most important signings for the club for some time now.

Since sealing his £41 million move to the club from Wolves, Portuguese forward Diogo Jota has shown the quality and potential that he possesses at the tender age of 23, having scored 3 goals in his first 5 league appearances for the club, as well as one goal in two appearances in the Champions League. Many may have thought it would be difficult for a forward of any calibre to try and break their way into the Liverpool front three of Sadio Mané, Mo Salah, and Roberto Firmino – with the three combining for 45 goals and 24 assists together last campaign.

Despite the clear chemistry between the three, Jota has taken his opportunities with ease, scoring in each of his last three appearances for Klopp’s side – with goals against Sheffield United, FC Midtjylland, and West Ham United.

Was Diogo Jota Liverpool's best signing in the summer?

Signings such as Thiago and Tsimikas are yet to make a real impression, with Thiago only playing two games for the club this season after testing positive and taking a knock against Everton. Greek left-back Tsimikas was mainly brought in to strengthen the Reds’ defensive options at left-back and is yet to get his big chance for the club.

Jota is showing himself to be an important player for Jurgen Klopp this season – and long may his form continue for the Reds with a big Champions League matchup against Atalanta tomorrow…
