It is no secret that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be particularly keen on signing Jude Bellingham. The 19-year-old midfielder has had a great season with Borussia Dortmund, attracting interest from a number of elite teams, including Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Manchester City. He was a mainstay in the English World Cup squad.
Steven Gerrard has publicly announced that he will play his part in helping Liverpool secure the signing of Bellingham and how he believes that Jude is the future of Liverpool.
Dortmund, on the other hand, is unwilling to let Bellingham go easy and intends to prolong his contract in order to deter interest from other teams. In order to keep Bellingham for the long run, the team is apparently aiming to make him the highest-paid player in club history.
This contract extension might throw a wrench in Klopp’s plans, making it much more difficult to sign Bellingham. The teenage midfielder is regarded as one of Europe’s best prospects, and Klopp is said to have made him a major target for the club. The battle for his signing is expected to be tough, and it remains to be seen if Liverpool will be able to complete a deal for him before the transfer window closes.
In his column for CaughtOffside, Christian Falk wrote, “Dortmund still have a bit of hope that Jude Bellingham could stay – they want to make him a new offer where he would become the top earner at the club with €15m. They’re planning talks in March now. His family is thinking about the future and they’re well aware that the next step has to come in the summer because it can’t be much better for Bellingham in the Bundesliga.”
